In this study, we aim to explore household dietary diversity in both rural and urban areas of Northern Uganda. By comparing the dietary patterns and identifying the factors that influence them, we can develop effective strategies to improve dietary diversity and consequently enhance overall health and well-being.

Introduction

Nutrition plays a vital role in maintaining good health, and a diverse diet is essential for obtaining all the necessary nutrients our bodies need. Dietary diversity refers to the consumption of a wide range of foods from different food groups over a specified period. It not only ensures the intake of essential vitamins, minerals, and macronutrients but also enhances the body’s ability to resist diseases and infections.

In Northern Uganda, where a large proportion of the population relies on subsistence agriculture, dietary diversity is often limited due to factors such as economic constraints, climate change, and cultural preferences. Additionally, urban areas face unique challenges, including limited access to fresh and diverse foods, increased reliance on processed foods, and lifestyle changes.
